Warbler’s Roost Artist Residency Program

Warbler’s Roost is located on Deer Lake, 22 KM west of South River, Ontario in the beautiful Almaguin Highlands region.
Warbler’s Roost offers short-term one week accommodation at discounted rates for artists who want to focus on their work in a distraction-free environment. Artists enjoy clean and private accommodations, continental breakfast, bright and spacious common areas, two shared kitchens and 2.5 bathrooms, free WiFi, use of kayak/canoes in summer and snowshoes in winter, 14 acres of beautiful outdoor countryside and 230 feet of waterfront on Deer Lake. There are many nearby hiking trails, including Mikisew Provincial Park and the South River Forgotten Trails. Warbler’s Roost is 40 km west of the South River water access point to Algonquin Park.
Warbler’s Roost is ideal for artists who need a quiet environment to work, meet a deadline, conduct research, collaborate with others or simply to escape urban life. All residencies are self-directed and there is no requirement for a public presentation by the artist. Please note that artists should bring their own supplies and equipment.

Artist Residency Rates are as follows:
January 15 – May 14: $395 CDN per week
May 15 – October 14: $445 CDN per week
October 15 – December 15: $395 CDN per week
Add $65 for an additional guest sharing the same room. Please note that an HST amount of 13% is added to all bookings. Warbler’s Roost allows pets (see our Policies & Pets page for details)
Please note: Artist residency periods are typically for 7 nights, preferably starting and ending on Tuesdays, although other arrangements are possible.
For Public Transportation the village of South River is served by Ontario Northland. Pick up at the South River bus stop, along with a grocery trip, can be arranged for an additional fee.
Payments
A deposit of 50% of your rental fee is required to confirm your booking. Balance is due on the day of your arrival. We accept VISA and MasterCard, or e-interac transfer.
Once a Warbler’s Roost staff member has confirmed that your chosen date is available, he/she will follow up with a phone call in order to arrange credit card payment.
Cancellation policy
As only a limited number of rooms are available, and at a discounted rate not offered to guests other than artists for the artist residencies, Warbler’s Roost has a strict cancellation policy. The 50% deposit is non-refundable. However, should the artist wish to change their dates and if the new dates are available, the deposit can be used for a revised booking period.
Please note that availability is limited. We encourage you to book well in advance to secure your preferred dates.
