Warbler’s Roost Artist Residency Program

Warbler’s Roost is located on Deer Lake, 20 minutes’ drive west of South River, Ontario in the beautiful Almaguin Highlands region. It is also 40 minutes’ drive west of Algonquin Park and 15 minutes’ drive east of the Old Nipissing Trail.
Warbler’s Roost is now offering short-term accommodation year-round at discounted seasonal rates for artists who want to focus on their work in a distraction-free environment. Artists enjoy clean and private accommodations, continental breakfast, bright and spacious common areas, a shared kitchen and 3.5 bathrooms, free WiFi, kayak/snowshoe rentals, 14 acres of beautiful outdoor countryside and 230 feet of waterfront on Deer Lake.
Warbler’s Roost is ideal for artists who need a quiet environment to work, meet a deadline, conduct research, collaborate with others or simply to escape urban life. All residencies are self-directed and there is no requirement for a public presentation by the artist. Please note that artists should bring their own supplies and equipment.

Artist Residency Rates are as follows for 2017:
January 9 – May 14: $295 CDN per week
May 22 – October 1: $345 CDN per week
October 9 – December 22: $295 CDN per week
Add $50 for an additional guest sharing the same room. Please note that an HST amount of 13% is added to all bookings. Warbler’s Roost allows pets (see our Policies & Pets page for details)
Please note: All artist residency weeks begin on a Monday.
If you wish you can arrange for a pick up at the South River bus stop for an additional fee. Arrangements can be made to take the artist into town to pick up groceries as well.
You must complete our Online Application & Booking Form at the bottom of this page in order to qualify for a residency program. It is a short questionnaire that asks you to tell us about yourself and the work you intend to do during your stay.
Please note that availability is limited. We encourage you to book well in advance to secure your preferred dates.
After you complete the online form, a Warbler’s Roost staff member will contact you to confirm your requirements and the dates of your stay.
A deposit of 50% of your rental fee is required to confirm your booking. Balance is due on the day of your arrival. We accept VISA and MasterCard, or cash.
Once a Warbler’s Roost staff member has confirmed that your chosen date is available, he/she will follow up with a phone call in order to arrange credit card payment.
As only a limited number of rooms are available, and at a discounted rate not offered to guests other than artists for the artist residencies, Warbler’s Roost has a strict cancellation policy. The 50% deposit is non-refundable. However, should the artist wish to change their dates and if the new dates are available, the deposit can be used for a revised booking period.
